We're aiming to tap into destination wedding markets amongst the Jamaican diaspora!

Couples searching for a Port Antonio wedding venue can't find you.

It's the easiest wedding search in Jamaica to win: the venue ranked first has a 75-word wedding page. Norse Hill isn't in Google's top 20 for it, or for any of the 13 wedding, retreat and villa searches we checked. The reasons are on your own pages, and every fix below can be made in Squarespace.

Nick's free review on September 19 covered the load time, the broken /retreats-1 footer link, the "About 2" page title and the missing footer contact details. This audit starts where that one stopped.

A white wedding aisle lined with flowers and gold chairs, leading to an arch under a huge spreading tree on a green lawn.

Google is already testing your homepage for a wedding search. For "wedding venues in portland jamaica" it showed your homepage 7 times, at around position 5, with no clicks. It picked the homepage, not the weddings page. The rebuilt homepage below is written for that search.

People search "Portland", not only "Port Antonio". Both non-brand wedding searches name the parish. Neither your homepage nor your weddings page title says "Portland".

Fix these first

Fix first

Google can't tell what you are or where you are.

The word "Jamaica" isn't in your homepage text. Its title in Google is just "Norse Hill Estate", its main heading is the last banner on the page, and on a phone the first screen is an empty brown box until the video arrives.

Homepage
Fix first

Your best proof is out of sight.

4,500 words of guest reviews sit on a page nothing links to. Brides.com covered your family's wedding, with a 200-guest reception here, and the weddings page never says so. The Brides link on your Press page now shows a "page gone" error.

Hidden pages
High

Everything a planner needs is behind a form.

The bridal guide, planner packet, retreat packet, events guide and every "See the rooms" button open an email form. Google can't read what's behind it, so it can't rank you for it.

The gated guides
High

The pages your buyers search for don't exist yet.

"Jamaican wedding traditions" is searched about 720 times a month across the US, UK and Canada, and "jamaica marriage license" about 150. Showers, bachelorettes and elopements have no pages.

What to write
Medium

Leftover pages send Google mixed signals.

Google sees pages titled "General 5", "About 2", "Reviews 1" and "Location", two old copies of the weddings and retreats pages, and a second homepage at /home.

Hidden pages
Medium

Phones wait 13 to 16 seconds for the page to fill.

Most weddings-page sections are built twice, once for phones and once for laptops, so the phone does double the work. The page scores 42 out of 100.

Every fix says who does it. Squarespace has no API or connector that an AI agent can publish through, so nothing an agent prepares goes live on its own: you or your web designer make the final change in Squarespace. Agent comes with a prompt you paste into an AI assistant. It prepares the exact text, titles and settings, ready to copy into Squarespace. Agent drafts, you approve produces a draft you read, then publish yourself. Your team needs someone who knows the estate. All the fixes in order are near the end.

02

What is good

03

Your homepage never says "Jamaica" where Google looks

Google decides what a page is about from three places: the title it shows in results, the main heading, and the first paragraph. On your homepage the title is "Norse Hill Estate", the first paragraph mentions Port Antonio once, and the main heading is the last banner on the page, under the rates and the amenity icons. A search engine reading it learns that Norse Hill rents villas with a pool and a hair dryer.

The Norse Hill homepage 30 seconds after it started loading: the logo and menu across the top, and below them a solid brown rectangle with no text or image.
Your homepage on a laptop, 30 seconds after it started loading. The video hadn't arrived, so the first screen was a brown box.

The homepage, rebuilt

Google is already showing your homepage, not your weddings page, to people searching "wedding venues in portland jamaica". So the homepage has to work as the front door for a wedding, and still sell the villas and retreats. Everything below comes from your own pages, reviews and Search Console. Prompt 3: the homepage rebuildGives you a copy-and-paste checklist to work through in Squarespace, after Prompt 1
Paste into any AI assistant. You get back a checklist of exact text and where it goes.
I run the Squarespace 7.1 site www.norsehillestate.com and will rebuild the homepage (/) myself in the Squarespace editor. Do not try to log in or edit the site. Turn the list below into a paste sheet I can work through block by block: for each one, where to click in Squarespace, the exact text to paste in its own copyable block, and a checkbox. Use the wording given here word for word. The fonts, colors, buttons and photo style stay as they are.

Start the sheet by reminding me to duplicate the homepage (Pages panel, gear icon, Duplicate) so there is a copy to go back to. Put every item marked [CONFIRM] in a short list at the top for me to answer first, and tell me to leave that sentence out if the answer is no.

1. SEO (Pages panel, gear icon on the homepage, SEO tab)
   - SEO title: "Portland, Jamaica Wedding Venue & Villas | Norse Hill Estate"
   - SEO description: "Family-owned estate and 8-acre botanic garden in Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica. Garden weddings, retreats and ocean-view villas from $485 a night."

2. First section (over the video)
   - Heading 1: "Weddings, retreats and villa stays in Port Antonio, Jamaica"
   - Paragraph: "A family-owned estate and 8-acre botanic garden in the hills of Portland, above the bluest water in the Caribbean."
   - Button 1: "Plan your wedding", linking to /weddings. Button 2: "Rates & availability", linking to /rates-availability.
   - On phones, show a still photo of the banyan tree instead of the video.

3. Intro section
   - Heading 2: "Your botanical oasis awaits."
   - Keep the current intro paragraph. Link "Tea House" and "Botanical Garden" to /botanicgarden.
   - Add: "Getting here: about 2 hours from Kingston (KIN) and Ian Fleming (OCJ) airports, and [CONFIRM: hours] from Montego Bay. We can arrange transfers."

4. Weddings section (image left: ceremony photo)
   - Small label: "Weddings". Heading 2: "Say your vows under the banyan tree"
   - "Four ceremony and reception spaces on one estate, from US $2,500 to $7,500. Up to [CONFIRM: 14 or 16] guests stay overnight, with a 3-night minimum for events."
   - Quote: "An idyllic tropical wedding in Jamaica." Brides.com
   - Link: "See our wedding spaces and prices" to /weddings.

5. Family reception section (image right: guests dancing with Jamaican flags)
   - Small label: "Coming home to marry". Heading 2: "Married at home, celebrated here"
   - "Marrying in your family's church in Jamaica? Bring everyone up the hill for the reception." [CONFIRM the estate hosts receptions after a ceremony elsewhere; if not, skip this whole section.]
   - "It's how our own family did it: a ceremony at Frenchman's Cove, then a reception for 200 guests here in the garden."
   - Link: "Plan a reception at Norse Hill" to /private-events.

6. Retreats section (image left: Tea House)
   - Small label: "Retreats". Heading 2: "Take the whole estate for your team"
   - "Six bedrooms and a loft, our own staff and chef, and the Tea House for meetings, yoga or quiet."
   - Quote: "We brought our executive level staff to Norse Hill for our strategic planning retreat... Plenty of room for presentations, discussions, activities." Chris Lambert, Google review
   - Link: "Plan a retreat" to /retreats.

7. Villa rates
   - Keep the three rate cards (Garden Cottage, Main Villa, Full Estate) and their prices exactly as they are.
   - Move the ten amenity icons (Pool, Hair Dryer, WiFi and so on) to /accommodations, under the villa descriptions.

8. Reviews section
   - Heading 2: "What our guests say". Line under it: "4.7 from 63 Google reviews"
   - Three quotes as plain text blocks, not a widget:
"Incredibly beautiful estate near some of the bluest water in the Caribbean. 10/10 hospitality. Great spot for large parties too." Nathan Williams
"Absolutely wonderful location, staff, and amenities. Could not recommend enough for a vacation or venue space." Michael McQueeney
"My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary at Norse Hill with all 8 of our children." Guest review
   - Link: "Read all our guest reviews" to /reviews.

9. Estate section
   - Short row: "Solar power", "Rainwater harvesting", "Organic gardens", then the existing PAVE Centre line with its link.

10. Bottom banner
   - Keep "The wedding venue you've always dreamed of." but change it from Heading 1 to Heading 2.

11. End the sheet with a check I can do myself once I publish: open the homepage in a private window on a phone and confirm the new heading shows on the first screen; click every new link; then on a laptop, right-click the page, choose View Page Source, search for <h1 and confirm it appears exactly once.
04

Your best page, and Google reads every heading twice

The weddings copy is strong: four spaces with prices, the banyan tree, PAVE, a bride's own words. Three things keep it from ranking. Most sections are built twice, once for phones and once for laptops, so Google reads every heading twice and finds seven main headings. The title never says Jamaica or Port Antonio. And the page never mentions that Brides covered a wedding held here.

Prompt 1: homepage and weddings pageGives you a copy-and-paste checklist to work through in Squarespace
Paste into any AI assistant. You get back a checklist of exact text and where it goes.
I run the Squarespace 7.1 site www.norsehillestate.com and will make these changes myself in the Squarespace editor. Do not try to log in or edit the site. Your job is to turn the list below into a paste sheet I can work through page by page.

For each change give me: where to click in Squarespace, the exact text to paste in its own copyable block, and a checkbox. Where the list gives exact wording, use it word for word. Where it says WRITE, draft the text using only facts on the live pages named (read them at www.norsehillestate.com; if you can't open them, ask me to paste the page text). Only text and heading levels change. The design, photos and colors stay as they are.

Start the sheet by reminding me to duplicate each page I'll edit (Pages panel, gear icon, Duplicate) so there is a copy to go back to.

1. Homepage (/)
   - Pages panel, gear icon on the homepage, SEO tab:
SEO title: "Portland, Jamaica Wedding Venue & Villas | Norse Hill Estate"
SEO description: "Family-owned estate and 8-acre botanic garden in Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica. Garden weddings, retreats and ocean-view villas from $485 a night."
   - Add a text block over or directly under the video, formatted as Heading 1:
"Weddings, retreats and villa stays in Port Antonio, Jamaica"
   - Change the bottom banner "The wedding venue you've always dreamed of." from Heading 1 to Heading 2. Keep the words.
   - Under the "Your Botanical Oasis Awaits." paragraph add one line:
"About 2 hours from Kingston (KIN) and Ian Fleming (OCJ) airports, and we can arrange transfers."
   - The full homepage rebuild is Prompt 3. Work through Prompt 3 after this one.

2. Weddings (/weddings)
   - SEO title: "Port Antonio Wedding Venue: Garden & Estate Weddings in Jamaica"
   - SEO description: "Say your vows under a banyan tree above the sea. Four ceremony and reception spaces on an 8-acre estate in Port Antonio, Jamaica, from US $2,500. Featured in Brides."
   - The page has a phone copy and a laptop copy of several sections. For each duplicated heading, keep it on the copy that shows at that screen size, but make sure only ONE block on the whole page is formatted as Heading 1: "A Port Antonio wedding the island remembers." Every other Heading 1 becomes Heading 2 (section names) or Heading 3 (space names).
   - WRITE, for the owner to review: under "Envision Your Day", two sentences about the owners' family wedding (ceremony at Frenchman's Cove, reception for 200 guests at Norse Hill), quoting Brides.com: "an idyllic tropical wedding in Jamaica". Link to the archived article: https://web.archive.org/web/20230128202528/https://www.brides.com/idyllic-tropical-jamaica-wedding-7091085 . On /in-the-news, replace the dead Brides link with the same archived link.
   - Move the sentence "Please note a 3-night minimum stay is required when using the property for events." up to sit under "1) One estate, up to 16 guests overnight".
   - Link these words: "Main Villa and Garden Cottage" to /accommodations, "Tea House" to /botanicgarden, "PAVE Centre" stays linked, and add "Read what our guests say" linking to /reviews under the two quotes.
   - WRITE: for every image on the page with an empty description, a plain one-sentence description of what the photo shows. If you can't see the images, list them by position on the page with a blank line for each so I can fill them in, or ask me for screenshots.

3. End the sheet with a check I can do myself once I publish: open each page in a private window on a phone and confirm the new heading shows on the first screen; then on a laptop, right-click the page, choose View Page Source, search for <h1 and confirm it appears exactly once.

Vendors who know the road to Port Antonio: [florists, photographers, caterers and DJs who've worked here], with a line on each.Unlocks: Answers "stick to Montego, you'll save" with names. Every vendor you list has a reason to link back to you.

Gap: this is a copy problem, and you already have the copy. The specs, load-in times, vendor policy and the vendors who know the drive to Port Antonio are written down today, but only inside the planning packet you send after the form. Put them on a /wedding-planners page. The form and the packet email stay, and that email can then ask for more than an address: a call with Lisa to check the date, or a date hold. Should you embed a Google reviews widget?

Not on the homepage. Quote the reviews as text instead.

A widget looks live, but it works against the two things this audit is fixing.

Google mostly can't read it. Widgets load the reviews with JavaScript after the page opens. A guest writing "wedding", "Port Antonio" or "the staff" in a widget does nothing for your search results. The same words in a text block do.

It slows the page you most need fast. On a phone your homepage takes 5.7 seconds to show its main content. A widget adds another script, and Squarespace needs a Code Block for it, which only its higher plans include.

A widget shows whatever is newest. A quote you choose says what that page needs. Add a "Read all 63 reviews on Google" link under the quotes. If you'd like a live feed anyway, put it only on /reviews, under the written testimonials.

Your pages are short on copy, and the copy is already written. Capacity, load-in, vendor policy, what's included, the retreat meals and spaces: it's all in the guides you email today. Moving a summary onto the site costs no new writing, only copying. Once the facts are public, nobody has to fill in the form just to learn them, so the email that sends the guide can push for a firmer next step: a call with Lisa, a video walk-through, or a date hold. The people who still fill in the form have already read the page, so they arrive further along.

The top Port Antonio result is a 75-word page

Your weddings page has more to say than almost any competitor's. It doesn't rank because its title, headings and links never tie it to Port Antonio. Fix that and you compete on content they don't have.

Your stated goal

Nobody is talking to Jamaican families abroad.

None of these wedding pages mentions coming home, family on the island, or a church ceremony with the reception somewhere else. For "getting married in Jamaica requirements", Google shows only embassies and government pages, with no venue in the top 10.

Trident's real advantage is other people's pages. A Black Bride real-wedding feature ranks third for "port antonio wedding venue", and it's about a Trident wedding. Your team Send your best recent weddings, with the couple's permission and the photographer's credit, to Black Bride and to the photographers who shot them, and ask for a link back to /weddings.

Jamaican wedding traditions

The black cake, the procession, the music. Told through weddings at Norse Hill.

Winnable: low competition, and a villa's blog (Tryall Club) already ranks on page one.
new page

Getting married in Jamaica

The marriage licence, documents, waiting time, and whether it's legal back in the US, UK or Canada.

Winnable: "Can a US citizen get married in Jamaica?" shows in Google's question box for 3 of the searches we checked.

What a Jamaica wedding costs

A real range for a 40 to 80 guest estate wedding, from your own venue fees.

Winnable: Google already suggests "norse hill estate wedding cost", and Expedia answers it.
new page

Elopements and vow renewals

A small ceremony at the Tea House or under the banyan tree.

Winnable: page one is resorts plus a photographer's blog.

Bachelorettes and bridal showers

What a weekend looks like for a group of 8 to 14.

Winnable: a villa's blog ranks for it today.

Things to do in Port Antonio

Frenchman's Cove, Reach Falls, the Blue Lagoon, Winnifred Beach, rafting the Rio Grande, with drive times from the estate.

Winnable: low competition, and wedding guests research this before they book.

Retreat hosts shop on directories, not Google. Nobody searches "retreat venue rental Jamaica" in measurable numbers, and the results for it are BookRetreats, Retreat Guru and RetreatHub. Your team A listing on those three reaches facilitators faster than any page on your site.

Prompt 2: addresses, titles and linksGives you a copy-and-paste checklist to work through in Squarespace
Paste into any AI assistant. You get back a checklist of exact text and where it goes.
I run the Squarespace 7.1 site www.norsehillestate.com and will make these changes myself in the Squarespace editor. Do not try to log in or edit the site. Turn the steps below into a paste sheet I can work through in order: for each one, where to click in Squarespace, the exact text to paste in its own copyable block, and a checkbox. Use the wording given here word for word. Where it says WRITE, draft the text using only facts on the live pages named (read them at www.norsehillestate.com; if you can't open them, ask me to paste the page text). Keep the steps in this order.

1. Page addresses (Pages panel, gear icon, General tab, URL slug):
   - /general-5 becomes /botanic-garden
   - /about-us-new becomes /about
Squarespace may offer to create a redirect when you change a slug. Accept it.

2. Redirects (Settings, Developer tools, URL mappings). Add these lines, keeping any that already exist:
   /general-5 -> /botanic-garden 301
   /botanicgarden -> /botanic-garden 301
   /about-us-new -> /about 301
   /weddings-archive -> /weddings 301
   /retreats-archive -> /retreats 301
   /home -> / 301
   /retreats-1 -> /retreats 301
Before I add the /botanicgarden redirect: WRITE an "Our history" section for /botanic-garden from the history paragraphs on /botanicgarden (Iris Hay-Edie, the Merritt family in 2005, the renovation and the plan for an accredited botanic garden), without repeating the Hay-Edie quote twice, and tell me to paste it in first. Then tell me to disable or delete the old /botanicgarden, /weddings-archive and /retreats-archive pages.

3. SEO titles (gear icon, SEO tab):
   - /botanic-garden: "Norse Hill Botanic Garden, Port Antonio, Jamaica"
   - /about: "About Norse Hill Estate: A Family Estate in Port Antonio, Jamaica"
   - /reviews: "Guest Reviews of Norse Hill Estate, Port Antonio"
   - /retreats: "Wellness Retreat Venue in Jamaica | Norse Hill Estate"
   - /private-events: "Private Events: Bridal Showers and Bachelorettes in Jamaica"
   - /activities: "Things to Do in Port Antonio, Jamaica | Norse Hill Estate"
WRITE an SEO description of 140 to 155 characters for /botanic-garden, /about and /reviews using only facts on those pages, and show the character count for each.

4. Links:
   - Add /reviews to the footer navigation as "Guest reviews".
   - Add /activities and /dining-drinks as links in the /accommodations page text ("things to do nearby", "dining at the estate").
   - On /private-events, add "photoshoots" linking to /photoshoots.

5. On /private-events, the text block headings (Bridal Showers, Bachelorette Parties, Photoshoots, Gatherings) appear twice each and are all Heading 1. Make "Private Events" the only Heading 1 and the others Heading 2.

6. Turn off the cart icon: Design (or Site styles), Header, Elements, Cart, off.

7. End the sheet with a check I can do myself once I publish: list each old address as a link so I can open it in a private window and confirm it lands on the new page.

Phones spend six seconds working before the page settles

We ran Google's speed test (Lighthouse, phone setting) today. Your server answers quickly. The delay is work the phone has to do: 6.3 seconds of running code on the homepage and 5.7 on the weddings page. Most of that code is Squarespace's and can't be removed, which makes the parts you control matter more.
